Why should I choose a small camp?
As a smaller camp we foster a very special environment where campers and staff really get to know each other, and where individual needs are met quickly.
What is a typical day at Camp Berger like?
Campers have three scheduled morning activities and two elective afternoon activities. Campers choose their electives everyday after lunch. See Programs and Activities for a detailed list.
What if my child can't swim or isn't a strong swimmer ?
Each child is swim tested on the day they arrive at camp to determine their ability. Campers are then placed in activities appropriate to their swim ability.
Where will my child live ?
Campers live in cabins with up to 10 children of the same sex, that are within 2 years of one another, and two counselors. The showers and bathrooms are seperate.
Can my child request a cabinmate?
Yes. The registration form has a space for such a request. We'll do our best to accomondate you.
What are meals like?
We eat family style with healthy kid friendly food. Yes you can make a healthy pizza, taco, burger, salad, pasta, Chinese meal. We provide well-balanced meals that give our campers and staff the energy needed to have a safe, healthy, fun filled, and energetic summer.
What if my child has food allergies/special dietary needs?
When filling out your child's health form be sure to list food allergies and dietary needs.
Can I visit my child at camp?
Campers attending two or more sessions are permitted visits on change-over, after 9:30 am Saturday and before 3:30pm Sunday. Please coordinate your visit with us in advance. We plan special activites during change-over for the multi-week campers.
What if my child gets sick or hurt?
We have a well equipped Infirmary with a first-aider, counselors trained in first aid and CPR, as well as we are less than 10 minutes from our local hospital and walk in clinic.
What if my child is shy or nervous in new situations?
Every effort is made to ensure that each child feels comfortable, welcome and included. We foster a safe environment where friendships and confidence grow.
Can my child bring a cell phone?
We have a no cell phone policy at camp. Our camp environment is unplugged for a healthy experience.
Can my child bring a computer?
If your child is enrolled in an online summer course they are permitted to bring a computer. Evening time will be provided for these campers to continue their studies. Staff will supervise and be available for help. Computers will be stored in the Directors Cabin. We encourage a healthy mix of camp fun and academic enrichment.
Is there any way to contact my child?
We encourage parents to send letters or email. Parents may contact the Director to check in but we discourage camper contact becuase it promotes homesickness. Your camper will be having too much fun to be interupted by phone calls.
